More than a half-million dollars in donations were announced today by the St. Joseph’s Community Health Foundation in Minot.
The group awarded checks to over four dozen organizations from an 11-county area of northwest North Dakota.
The money was from the “Twice Blessed” campaign, where the foundation matched donations raised by the various non-profit groups.
An official with one of the recipients – the Kenmare Fire Department – says “Twice Blessed” has helped his agency renew its efforts to reach out to people for donations.
(Chuck Leet, Kenmare Fire Department Secretary/Treasurer) “We ended up with about double what we ended up with last year. It’s been a great help this year. I think we got a good connection this year with the people in our area and our fire district.”
Leet says the donation of over $20-thousand will be used to buy new specialized firefighting gear for Kenmare.
This year’s awards totaled $557,353, up from $287,184 in the program’s first year last year.
