Two Williston schools dismissed early after empty firearm holster found

UPDATE: Williston Middle School and Bakken Elementary School students were released early today after an empty firearm holster was spotted in the middle school.

School administration contacted law enforcement and notified parents via text, e-mail, and/or phone. Parents received a text message alert just before 1 p.m. that read.

“Suspicious activity was reported at the WMS Bakken campus. All students and staff will be dismissed at 1 p.m. Parents must sign out children.”

Long lines formed at both school as parents waited to pick up their kids. The two schools are located in an adjoining building.

According to the Williams County Sheriff’s Office, SWAT will conduct a search of the building to confirm that no other suspicious materials are found.

Today was the last day of the school year for Williston students. Because of the early dismissal, they will be allowed to return to the schools tomorrow to pick up any belongings.
