Minot-area non-profits picked up some hefty checks today.
The Souris Valley United Way awarded more than 300-thousand dollars to 20 programs that assist the community through education, financial stability, and health.
Nutrition services picked up the largest share of the pot – more than 109-thousand dollars.
Rich Berg, executive director of the Souris Valley United Way, says the groups getting funds reported an increased demand for services because of the general downturn in the economy in recent years.
He says that message will be important to get out to people in the region as they consider their United Way contributions for the coming years.
