The University of Mary received a nearly $1 million grant to fund its very first all Native American graduate cohort.
The classes will start online in January for the 12 grad students in the program.
Saturday the group was officially inducted. We spoke to one of the students enrolled about what this means to her.
“I’m really excited on where it might take me in my career and what I’m going to be able to give back to the students I will be able to work with. Typically these type of scholar programs have been only granted at the tribal college level. But University of Mary is kind of setting themselves aside as a representation of a new leadership and era of where education is going to be headed,” says Felicia Haselleu, one of the students to receive the grant.
Of those students, three different native American tribes from North Dakota are represented.
