UPDATE: Lightning to Blame for TRNP Fires

1:00 p.m. UPDATE:

Lighting is the cause of two small fires burning in Theodore Roosevelt National Park according to Eileen Andes, the Chief of Interpretation and Public Affairs at Theodore Roosevelt National Park.

One is located near Jones Creek and is six to eight acres large.

The other is located near Halliday Wells. That fire is about 10 acres.

Five units are on site with about 20 people aiding in fire suppression efforts. There is also a helicopter doing water drops according to Andes. Multiple agencies are assisting as well.

Andes says they do not know when the fire started, but that they were notified around 6:00 p.m MST last night.

Don’t know what time it started, but Eileen Andes, was notified at 6 pm last night, and they had a briefing early this morning at 6 am

There are no injuries and no damages. The fire is contained to a rural area.

According to Andes, these are the only two fires reported at TRNP’s north and south unit this season.

Firefighters are concerned about temperature, humidity, and wind.

The fires are not contained and as of right now it is too early to tell on a time frame for containment.
