A Rolette County Sheriff’s deputy was shot and killed after a police chase Wednesday evening. The suspect in the case is also reportedly dead. Sheriff Gerald Medrud told reporters that around 6:30, officers attempted to make a traffic stop for a pickup that was reported to have been stolen from Devils Lake. The male suspect then led four officers on a chase through Rolette County. Once officers caught up to the pickup at a remote intersection about seven miles south of Belcourt, a shootout reportedly began. No other officiers were injured. The Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating the deadly shooting. There will be a press conference in Rolla at 10 a.m. We will have more information as it comes available.
