In Ward County, the Minot Rural Fire Department announced a burn ban restriction.
Although, fireworks are still are allowed.
Everyday the fire department looks at the fire index.
Currently we are at a moderate rating, but if that arrow moves to very high, fireworks cannot be fired.
Fire Chief Rex Weltikol says that the fire index changes day to day and can even change from the morning to the evening.
Because of this, the fire department will pay close attention especially on the 4th of July to make sure it’s safe to light up the sky.
(Rex Weltikol, Minot Rural Fire Chief) “Once it hits the ground you got a fire going. So, you want to just pay close attention as to what’s happening with your fireworks that you’re shooting off.” said Rex Weltikol.
