Minot residents are asked to preserve as much water as possible.
A piece of equipment in the main 12 million gallon treatment basin at the Water Treatment Plant has malfunctioned.
The plant adds Lime to water which removes the hardness. This creates a sludge that a scraper moves to get pumped out. Recently, there was an electrical outage and that scraper was jammed.
“When they reset it, the -the motor started but the scraper wouldn’t turn so it snapped the shear pin. It’s a real cheap, real simple part, but -like I said- we need to get about a million gallons of water drained so we can get at the scraper so we can get it moving again and then we can put everything back together.” said Jason Sorenson, Assistant Director of Public Works.
Sorenson estimated that it will take three days before it’s repaired. Until then, the public should not water their lawns, wash their cars, or use excessive amounts of water.
