Weather AWARE — Thursday’s Morning Weather Update- 4/12

The KX Storm Team is in severe weather AWARE for winter weather.

It may be Spring, but winter weather is expected for much of the south and west. It will start as soon as this afternoon — starting as rain then transitioning over to all snow by this evening. It will become widespread in the overnight hours and then gradually move from North to South as Friday afternoon continues. There are a series of alerts — a winter storm warning for the southwest region — this will be the area that will feel most of the effects and roughly 5-8″ is expected. Heavy, blowing & drifting snow, and reduced visibility are all of the main concerns. Lesser snow totals is expected in areas where a winter weather advisory is set— further to the north and east — with roughly 3-5″. Snow amounts continue to decrease in areas not under any alerts. Slippery road conditions are still expected. The alerts will expire either Friday evening or Saturday morning — depending on where you are located. The weekend will have slightly sunnier skies and temperatures in the 30s— then it’ll warm up to the 40s heading into next week— remaining still below average.  An average high temperature is in the lower to mid 50s and lows in the upper 20s.

Thursday, a mostly cloudy day with increasing winds throughout, from the east at 10-20 mph and gusts nearing 30-35 mph. A chance of rain in the early afternoon for the south then changing over to all snow by the evening. Highs mainly in the 30s with a few 40s.

Thursday night, increasing widespread snow throughout the night. Snow accumulations of 5-8″ are possible in the southwest and lesser amounts further north and east. Blowing and drifting snow is a concern, including reduced visibility. Lows in the 20s. Winds east/northeast at 10-20 mph and gusts near 30 mph.

Friday, much of the south will see snow in the morning and early afternoon — it’ll end gradually from north to south, otherwise, a cloudy sky. Expect a north wind at 15-25 mph and gusts nearing 30 mph at times. Highs in the lower 30s.

Saturday, highs in the 30s and a partly cloudy sky. Winds from the southeast at 5-10 mph.

Saturday night, a few clouds with a relative light wind from the east. Lows in the teens.
