Wednesday’s Weather Update 9/14

News

From the KX News Dakota Storm Center:

Still slightly under the influence of a ridge of high pressure, skies cleared out early (after a chilly start) and we have been seeing plenty of sunshine with a few in & out clouds through the midday & afternoon hours. A low pressure system is developing on the lee side of the Rocky mountains. This low will move ENE through the Northern Plains and it will be our next rain maker. This evening & tonight will bring increasing clouds and rising rain chances. Expect a likely chance for rain & thunderstorms with a Marginal (low) risk for severe weather in parts of our area. As we wrap up the work week, rain chances will taper off followed by clearing skies. Temperatures will become mild and then warm this weekend; under plenty of sunshine with a light breeze as another ridge of high pressure builds across the region. Through the beginning of the work week, a calm weather pattern will continue with temps gradually falling into a seasonable range. The end of the 7-day planner shows some potential for more rain chances.

Tonight, increasing clouds are expected followed by rising (AM) rain chances in advance of our next low pressure system. Lows in the 50s with a few 40s and a SE wind 5-15mph G20. 30% chance for rain.

Thursday will bring mostly cloudy skies with some clearing at times and off/on rain chances. Scattered showers & thunderstorms will continue through the day with a low risk for severe weather. Highs in the 60s with a few 70s and an East/NW wind 2-12mph G20. 80% chance for rain. Up to 1″ of new rain is expected with higher totals (1″-1.5″) possible in areas affected by thunderstorms.

Thursday night, expect mostly cloudy skies with continued off/on rain chances and a cool feel. Lows in the 50s with a few 40s and a NW wind 5-15mph G25. 50% chance for rain with .10″-.5″ of new rain possible.

Friday will start off with continued rain chances and a cool feel. Through the midday & afternoon, expect tapering rain chances and clearing skies. Highs in the 60s with a NW/North wind 10-20mph G30. 40% chance for rain with .10″-.25″ of new rain possible.

Friday night will bring continued clearing skies and a chilly feel. Lows in the 40s with a West/SW wind becoming light.
