Getting in shape can be hard.
Not only do you have to work on fitness and nutrition, you have to know how to use equipment at the gym.
But there’s a small space at a YMCA helping build up people’s confidence.
Here’s your Wellness Wednesday.
“So it is 100 percent private, nobody else is allowed to use it which is really nice for people who are a little uncomfortable or they’re new to the gym,” says Jenna Bernhardt, wellness specialist.
This is the Private Personal Training Studio at the Missouri Valley YMCA.
It’s a small space open since March.
You can use it if you have a personal trainer or are in a bootcamp.
“These are TRX straps, total resistance exercise resistance training, so what you can do, any fitness level, you can use these straps…
I’ve had an 85 year old cancer survivor, I’ve had pregnant women and I’ve had athletes on these straps as well, so I’ll have each of you grab on to these straps… We’re going to go about a shoulder-width apart, and you’re going to let yourself go back until your arms are completely straight. Perfect, now engaging your shoulders, you’re going to pull yourself up, squeezing your shoulder blades, and then go right back down,” says Jenna Bernhardt, Wellness Specialist/Personal Trainer.
You can do different exercises with the TRX straps, tire flip, or battle ropes.
“They’re not that intimidating, they’re so great for your upper body, they’re great for your core strength,” says Berhardt.
You can work hard, and in private, but trainers say the overall goal, is to get you ready to leave this room behind.
“Everything in here is also out there, so as you get more comfortable here and on your off days with your trainer you can go out there and feel comfortable using it in front of everybody else,” says Berhardt.
The Private Personal Training Studio does cost extra to use at the Y.
They also hold bootcamps for everyone from cancer survivors to pregnant women.
