Why Stores Really Prepare for the Holidays so Early

Many are already starting to check items off friends’ and families’ wish lists.

I spoke with the general manager at Kirkwood Mall about how they prepared, and why it may be a good idea to start early.

Here’s the story.

“We start thinking about the holidays in spring.” said Jennifer Wilson, GM Kirkwood Mall.

…and now that it’s fall, the general manager of Kirkwood Mall says it’s not a bad idea to put holiday shopping on your to-do list.

“Start thinking about Christmas shopping earlier and earlier because you have to budget, you have to spread it out,” said Wilson.

At the Kirkwood Mall, some holiday venders are already up and running, and, with several new stores, Wilson is excited to see what this season brings.

“We are actually getting down to the wire here, where we have only a couple of inline stores that are available to rent, and a few spaces throughout the common area, so now the tenants are starting to hire,” said Wilson.

According to a study done by Big Commerce, about 51% of Americans prefer to shop online.

Wilson says there are perks to making your purchase at the store itself.

“You get to touch the product, you get to put it on your body, you get to feel it, and things jump out at you that you maybe wouldn’t find if you were surfing the internet,” said Wilson.

She says it’s also about the experience itself.

“When you come to the mall, you get to have an experience with your child, with your family, with your sister, your grandma, your mom, that you can’t have when you shop online,” said Wilson.

Whether you prefer online or in-person shopping… ’tis the season.
