Willow City Water Levels Are Rising Quickly

Around Willow City, ranchers are dealing with flooding on their farmland.

It was a snowy winter in the Turtle Mountains – and now that all that snow has begun melting, the water is inundating farm land and overflowing the banks of many streams and creeks.

Ranchers near Willow Creek say that the flooding isn’t uncommon for this time of year.

But what is unusual is the speed of this year’s rise in water level – up three feet since Wednesday afternoon putting it into the flood level.

“We move cattle to higher ground, drier place, more bedding. It has happened before and water’s supposed to rise yet.” said Levi Vollmer.

Vollmer says he’ll be waiting for a drop in the water to get things back to normal.

The Weather Service is predicting, however, that Willow Creek will remain above flood stage for several more days.

Thanks, Alexus.
