When your home starts to flood, it happens quickly.

But there are ways to help prevent it.
One expert says to watch for holes and cracks in the basement and plug them along with your floor drain.
Working sump pumps are a good way to get the water out below the surface.

A lot of homes already have one, but make sure it is working properly.

Jeff Hinz, ACE Hardware, says, “Flooding basements are always a concern and you have holes in your basement floor mostly where floor drains or toilets come in. Couple things you can do — there are water sensors that will put out an alarm… that will let you know if water is coming up.”

Hinz says we are not at the point where big pumps are needed since no major flooding is expected.
