The summer season begins tomorrow at Minot’s Roosevelt Park Zoo.
And it figures to be a summer of change.
Contracts have been awarded for construction of a new habitat for the tigers and lions.
The new home for the big cats will greatly increase the space they have to roam – and improve the view for visitors.
(Jennifer Kleen, Minot Zoo Crew Executive Director) “The cat complex was built in 1975 and it tends to look like it was built in that era. It’s time for some modern habitats for our lion and our tiger, but modern habitats for modern viewing opportunities for our community as well. There’s going to be a lot of learning experiences built in.”
Construction on the $5.8 million project will begin this spring.
So far, the zoo has raised about $3.2 million for the new habitat and is continuing its fund-raising campaign.
