A local non-profit is thriving due to the help of the community.
The YWCA is the only women’s and children’s shelter in the Minot region.
The shelter assists clients with a place to sleep, laundry, and cooking facilities.
They have a 21 bed capacity — and say that since July they’ve been right at that number if not over it.
They recently received a 96,000 dollar grant from Otto Bremer Trust, which helps them stay in the business of helping women.
“It does cost 38 dollars per client per night to stay in the facility—and it’s not like we’re trying to do anything excessive –we’re trying to pay the mortgage keep the lights on those sort of basic necessities,” said executive director Lauren Moore.
The YWCA recently held their Over the Edge fundraiser and they were able to raise 50,000 dollars.
