2 Capital Ice Synchronized Skating teams headed to nationals

Capital Ice Synchronized Skating is sending two teams back to the national tournament.

The Capital Ice Chips, made up of high school-age athletes, are making their ninth consecutive trip to nationals, where they will compete against 11 other teams from around the country.

This season the Chips have won two gold medals as well as a bronze at the Midwestern Sectional Championships.

Longtime Chips skater Denni Bengtson says the squad is eager to claim that elusive national title.

“That would literally mean eveyrhting to me. We’ve been trying so hard for the last–my last six years, thats all we’ve been working for,” Bengtson said. “We’re really hoping this year’s the year.”

The Capital Ice Connection, the junior age team of ages 9-13, will compete at nationals as well.  It will be their third appearance.
