Boys’ HS Track and Field: St.Mary’s hopes to compete above their experience

The St. Mary’s Boys Track and field team admits this is a rebuilding year, but the guys still expect to compete.

The Saints return their 4 x 800 meter relay team that qualified for state last year. They also anticipate all of their sprint relays will hit the qualifying marks.

In the field, Evan Leingang could make a return to trip to State.

As far as the team is concerned, St. Mary’s will be young. Coach Tavis Friedt wishes there were more older leaders the team could look up to.

“It’s nice to have that example for some of the younger kids,” head coach Tavis Friedt said. “It’s nice to have that example for the kids, so it’s kid of tough. Motivating younger kids is different from motivating upperclassmen.”

St. Mary’s next meet is scheduled for April 20 at the Community Bowl
