Boys’ HS Track and Field: St. Mary’s wishing for more upperclassmen to lead young athletes

National Sports

The St. Mary’s boys’ track and field team is extremely young this year. In fact, they only have one senior.

Head coach Tavis Friedt says he is really excited about the 20 freshman and sophomores on the team. The problem is he would like to have more upperclassmen provide an example for the younger athletes.

Benjamin Grinsteiner is the only senior on the club, but he is also in a new role. He has to be the leader, which was kind of surprise.

“Kind of yeah,” Grinsteiner said. “Earlier years — my junior, sophomore, freshman year — there was always a bid senior that I could look up to. This year, that’s me.”

On April 13, St. Mary’s is scheduled to be at the community bowl for the Karlgaard Invite.
