In boys high school track and field, for the second straight season, St. Mary’s will have one of the youngest teams in the state.
The Saints only senior is Evan Leingang. Last year, he set the school record in the 300m hurdles, but then Cullen Curl — his teammate — broke the record the next week. Also last season, Evan was a state placer in the 300-meter hurdles and 100-meter dash.
Evan said he and Cullen have a healthy competition which will benefit both in the long run.
“This year it’ll teach me to try a little harder and just run out there and have fun and run my race,” Leingang said. “I’m really expecting a little better than last year because we only lost one senior, but he still helped out a lot on relays so we’ll see if we can make it.”
This year, Evan said he plans to focus more on the shorter sprints. He took eighth place in the 60-meter dash last Friday.
This Friday, Evan and Saints will compete at the WDA Indoor Invite on Friday.
