Boys HS Track: Bismarck High expects breakout year for relays

Sports

Not long ago, the Bismarck High boys track and field team won their 11th consecutive state championship.

More recently, the Demons took fourth at the state meet last year.

The year 2017 was an odd one for Bismarck. They had no individual champions. There top performers were second place finishers Derek Leingang in the long jump and Jared Rath in the discus, but Derek feels this year will be different.

“It’s looking really good,” Leingang said. “Coaches are recruiting hard this year. It’s a very serious year. We’re looking good for relays. I think we could honestly take state for our relay teams.”

This Friday, Bismarck High will be at the state indoor track meet in Fargo.
