Boys HS Track: Mandan’s Watson a strong favorite to win State in pole vault

Sports

On the track in less than two days, the Class A and B state track meet will be at the Community Bowl and Mandan will have presence.

On boys’ side, the Braves send seven individual qualifiers and four relay teams. One of the Braves with a shot to win an individual state title is Isaac Watson. The senior pole valuter comes in as the top-seeded athlete in the event. His best clearance of 14-feet-9 is a foot better than the next highest mark.

Isaac says he promised his grandmother he would clear 15-feet-2.

“Well, I made 14-foot-6 and then I made 14-foot- 8, two inches higher,” Watson. “So, i just felt 15-foot-2 would be good.”

The Class A Boys pole vault starts Friday at 9:45 a.m.
