Boys HSBB: Century explains the art of the buzzer beater

National Sports

Twice this season, the Century boys’ basketball team has made an improbable shot to earn a victory. I spent time with Patriots as they helped me learn the art of the buzzer beater.

There is nothing more exciting in basketball than a buzzer beater.

“Andreline took over,” Cade Feeney said. “Then I was surrounded by my teammates.”

But sometimes the plays don’t always go as scripted.

“If they take one thing away or two things away,” Darin Mattern said. “You have to be able to go to options three and four.”

Cade Feeney was not the first option when his shot beat Mandan, but he had to be ready.

“[Josh] Sipes was going to get it,” Feeney said. “Then he was going to come off a screen and dribble down and find the best options or not.”

On Tuesday, Century travels to Legacy for a game at 7:45
