Boys HSBB: Mandan re-focused for State Tournament

National Sports

On the boys’ side, the path to the state tournament was not easy for the Mandan Braves.

Mandan was upset in the first round of the WDA tournament by Jamestown, but the Braves fought back to beat Bismarck in the a loser-out game. Then Mandan defeated three-time defending state champions — Minot — for a spot in tomorrow’s tournament.

“Our focus will be defense,” Jackson Wiest said, “and playing our game. Instead of playing at someone else’s tone. We want to set the tone and be able to play our own game.”

Every day [Coach Schafer] preaches defense,” Chad Fenster said, “because defense wins championships that’s what we have been talking about the whole year our offense is fine.”

Mandan starts their path to the state championship with a game against Fargo Shanley at 4 p.m.
