Boys HSBB: St. Mary’s slowly climbing up West Region standings

National Sports

The St. Mary’s boys basketball team can still make the state tournament for the first time since 2014.

The season is really looking up.

After losing their first eight games, the Saints have gone 3-3 in recent weeks.

That turnaround places St. Mary’s eighth in the West standings, but they are only two spots away from securing an automatic berth for the WDA tournament.

Senior guard Luke Kambeitz said losing close games is frustrating.

“We’ve been in almost every game,” Kambeitz said. “We have close games. Then, we have a five-minute stretch in the second half pulls away a little bit and we did a hole that we can’t come back from it.”

On Jan. 25, St. Mary’s host Williston at 4 p.m.
