Century Football Preview

National Sports

As we approach another football season, the layout of AAA teams will be interesting to see. It was Minot and Century in the state championship last year — Minot loses Ben Bolinski and Century — who ultimately ended up on top — losing Dalton Feeney, but speaking with this years Patriot team, names like Feeney, Gieger, and Sweep are in the past. The team has a message for North Dakota Football.

“We want to prove to the entire state of North Dakota that just because we lost Dalton Feeney, Adam Gieger, or Zach Sweep that we didn’t just win a state championship. Century Football won a state championship — Not just 2-3 guys.”

But as camp kicks off, the blaring holes left by last year’s seniors have to be addressed.

“We didn’t return a lot of starters from last year on either side of the ball.”

And filling the roll of quarterback is junior Jakob Olson. As big as the shoes of Feeney might be, Olson says he’s not trying to fill them.

“I don’t really know if I’m filling in a spot, but I’m filling the quarterback position and I’m just trying to be a role player.”

A different offensive dynamic — Another part of that equation being the backfield.

“I like our backfield right now.”

Philip Davies returns for his senior season. And with the personnel changes, expects to — and says he is ready — to play a bigger role.

“Having a quarterback like Dalton Feeney, and the two best receivers in the state, I didn’t really touch the ball a lot, so this year I’m hoping that I get my chance to help the team out.”

Running behind a veteran offensive line.

“Our line is physical. We got bigger and stronger and we are ready to take on any line across the state.”

Which they will. Soon.

“Ultimately we want to play in November.”

“We know we got a target on our back.”

“It’s going to be fun proving people wrong this year.”

The Patriots kick off their season at home the 27th against Fargo Davies.
