College Baseball: BSC, U-Mary pick up sweeps in mid-week tilts

Bismarck State College and the University of Mary baseball teams picked up sweeps in mid-week tilts on April 9.

Bismarck State faced Northland Community and Technical College at Haaland Field. In Game 1, BSC built a 5-1 lead heading into the top of the seventh. However, Northland rallied to bring the game within one run, 5-4. BSC held on for a 5-4 win after a pop out to the shortstop. In the second game, BSC won, 14-4, in six innings.

Over at Municipal, U-Mary took on Winona State. In Game 1, both teams were tied at one heading into the bottom of the third. U-Mary’s Darius Barlas roped a single just inside the right field line that plated two runs and gave U-Mary a 3-1 advantage. Barlas’ hit turned out to be the difference maker in a 3-1 win. In Game 2, U-Mary trailed, 2-1, but battled back to win, 3-2.

Both programs moved up their doubleheaders up a day because of the threat of bad weather on Wednesday, April 10.
