College Baseball: U-Mary Coach Moriarty to focus on Midwestern roots in recruiting

National Sports

New University of Mary baseball coach Mark Moriarty continues to work to turn the Marauders into conference contender and to accomplish his goal he will have recruit top athletes.

Moriarty says he wants to stick with his Midwestern roots and recruit from the surrounding states, he even wants to go into Canada.

Based on the current roster, this philosophy does not represent a huge change from old regime. Two-thirds of last year’s roster was comprised of kids from those areas.

“I’m pretty familiar with the Midwest,” Moriarty said. “So of course you have to stay with those connections a little bit, but you can go nationally with the school and what it offers and how affordable it is.”

U-Mary expects to start workouts with the team when they return to campus in the fall.
