College Basketball: St. Mary’s Gendreau stays home, commits to U-Mary

National Sports

In the fall of 2017, St. Mary’s quarterback Cole Gendreau helped lead the Saints to their third state championship in four years, but in college he has decided basketball will be his only sport.

Gendreau will play basketball next season at the University of Mary.

This past season, he played point guard for St. Mary’s. He was pivotal member of the team, as the Saints qualified for the state tournament for the first time since the 2013-14 season.

Gendreau says faith played a major factor in his decision.

“The faith part of it,” Gendreau said. “Not just athletics, but also academics. Going to a catholic school also played a big part.”

As a senior, Gendreau led St. Mary’s in points, assists and steals.
