One of the most talented junior college basketball players in the state will continue his career at the Division I level.
United Tribes Sophomore Rob McClain Jr has signed a national letter of intent to play basketball next season at the University of Texas — Rio Grande Valley.
Rob was named a junior college All-American this season after averaging 27 points and shooting 57 percent from the field.
“I went on the visit over the weekend and I just felt it was a second home to me,” McClain said. “The players were upfront. The coaches were upfront. Everything felt genuine. It didn’t feel like they were holding anything back. They put everything out on the table and said, ‘This is what we got. This is where we want to be.’ I felt like I could really help with that.”
Rob said he is thankful for his time at United Tribes. He says it helped shape him into the man he is today.
