If there was a contest for most impressive hair on the Dickinson State football, senior offensive lineman Tobin O’Brien would definitely be in the running.
No one takes more pride in their hair than senior lineman Tobin O’Brien, because his has been in the works for a long time.
“Since I was seven,” O’Brien said. “Fourteen years now, so it’s just kind of a lifestyle now.
“My Twitter bio is, ‘I’m that fat kid with the long hair.’ So I kind of just own up to it. I’m just the chubby kid that loves the long hair.”
In football, though, long hair can be used against you. So I asked him why he’s kept it growing throughout his career.
“All those cool people in history have always had the long hair, like the Vikings and stuff like that. It’s just a warrior mentality kind of thing,” O’Brien said.
You might think it’d be hard for O’Brien to part with his long hair, but he actually has a plan ready to go for when he gets his first teaching job.
“One of the things I’m thinking about doing is once I get settled in at the school a little bit, maybe do a fundraiser,” O’Brien said. “If the school raises a certain amount of money, we’ll trim it or cut it all off. I want to do something to give back.”
But until then, his mane will be on full display in the trenches.
The Blue Hawks will travel to Waldorf this Saturday at noon MST.
