U-Mary and Minot State softball split a doubleheader on Tuesday to open NSIC play.
The first game featured plenty of late offensive firepower. The teams were tied 2-2 after six innings, but the Marauders plated three runs in the seventh, with two coming thanks to a Madison McGonigal double.
But the Beavers answered the Marauders’ rally with one of their own. After tying the game back up, a Marauders’ infield error allowed the winning run to score, giving MSU a 6-5 walkoff win.
The Marauders would rebound in game two to win 7-2. Paige Matsuki helped pace the Marauders offense by going 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI.
Minot State next hosts Minnesota Duluth on Friday at 2 p.m., while U-Mary will play St. Cloud State Friday morning in Minot.
