The University of Mary wrestling team put on its Dean Walker Memorial Throwdown yesterday in the Bowl parking lot before the football game against Minot State.
Head coach Adam Aho said the the event is essentially an intra-squad practice with no bearing on the starting lineups for the regular season. Aho said the team loved the idea of getting to wrestle outdoors, and he added that fans can expect some great things from the team this winter.
“I think we’re going to be better than we were last year. We took fifth in the conference last year, so I think we can have the opportunity to move up into that third or fourth spot in the conference,” Aho said. “Individually, I expect that we can have the possibility of getting at least three to four guys in the national tournament. If we do that, then have an opportunity to start placing at nationals.”
The wrestling team is in action Nov. 4 as part of the Jamestown Open.
