Cross Country: Century girls seek second ever state title

National Sports

The Century girls’ cross country team will go for its second-ever state title this Saturday in Jamestown.

The Patriots have some momentum going into the Class A meet. They took first at WDAs, and then had four top-ten runners at the Fall Classic.

Preparing for state is also a mental game, but head coach Julie Stavn believes her team is composed enough to not let the moment become too big for them.

“A lot of our top runners are fairly experienced,” head coach Julie Stavn said. “They’ve run some big meets. They’ve run in the Nike regional meet, and they’ve run the state meet before. Hopefully that’ll help them be a little more relaxed and race like they know how.”

The Patriots have not won the Class A state title since 2014. The Saturday, the girls state meet begins at 2:00 p.m.
