DeKok receives mixed results on latest Rochester visit

National Sports

St. Mary’s Boys basketball coach Brent DeKok is still fighting cancer. He received a mix of good news and potentially not so good news from the doctors yesterday.

The good news first is: His doctors revealed that none of the cells that had cancer are showing any activity.

The potentially not so good news: There is a spot in his chest and doctors want to scope it to see if it’s cancerous or not.

“Crossing my fingers praying that it doesn’t because then if it doesn’t we might be completely done with everything,” Dekok said. “If it does have some cancer cells remaining, it sounds like we might have to do some more radiation at that point.”

If it is cancerous, Brent would have surgery in about a month. If not, he could be completely done with cancer treatments.
