Fort Gordon Airman thankful for first visit to Masters

National Sports

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – Friday is the second round of the Masters, also known as cut day.

Only the golfers with the top fifty scores, including ties, from the first two rounds continue to the weekend for the 83rd Masters. And Thursday we caught up with a unique patron normally thanked for his service…now he’s thankful for his first visit to the Masters.

Jeffery Blile walked through the gates of Augusta National for the first time and set his chair down at 18 like he was a regular.

“It’s a once in a lifetime experience.”

If this were an assignment, he’d be dressed differently. Technical Sergant Blile is a member of the United States Airforce and stationed at Fort Gordon.

“I just got lucky.”

And this part has got some of his friends a little envious.

“I had some friends from my last assignment who are huge golf fans and when I told them I get to go to The Masters, they were a bit jealous to say the least, yes.”

He’s grateful that because of his service he was also able to fulfill a dream.

“Just to catch a glimpse at a few of the golfers, the famous ones. I already got to see Tiger Woods.  He just walked right in front of me so I was like, woah, ok. To see some of the food. I’ve heard nothing, but good things about the egg sandwich and the pimento cheese sandwich and then to actually experience the course, to walk around and see this. I mean, this is a gorgeous course.”
