Girls’ cross country: Captain’s practices helping Century bond

National Sports

Before the cross country season begins, teams like Century girls’ cross country are holding captain’s practices, which are optional group runs held throughout the summer.

Younger runners like Shalae Lindell say the practices are a great chance for new captain Avery Vasicek to display leadership and get the team to bond early.

“She really encourages our girls, and it kind of makes you want to run that extra mile, run that extra hill,” Lindell said. “It’s really great for her to just stand there and be like, ‘Good job guys, keep going, you’re doing so well.'”

The Patriots begin their season Aug. 30.
