Girls HS Basketball: Mandan expects to play 10 or 11 at State

National Sports

In girls high school basketball, Mandan has won 12 straight games and are currently ranked No. 3 in the state.

While all the focus has been on Megan Zander, Kennedy Harris and Lakyn Darras, Coach Abby Thomas says her team goes 10 to 11 deep, which is not uncommon. However, Coach Thomas said she expects that trend to continue during the state tournament, which is usually a time when the playing rotation is condensed.

“We’re hoping so,” said Coach Thomas. “That’s kind of the purpose of trying to get them all in now and the early parts of the year is to get them that experience. When it comes to state tournament time, they are used to playing that many minutes and use to that role and ready to be called on in a moment’s notice. I think the deeper we can go in the state tournament, the better chance we have.”

Mandan’s game today with St. Mary’s has been rescheduled to Feb. 7.
