Girls HS Basketball: Mandan hopes experience turns into huge advantage

In girls high school basketball, Mandan is expected to advance to the state championship game for the second straight season.

Early in the year, the Braves were the victims of what I call “volleyball legs”. That’s when athletes play deep into the volleyball season and do not have time to recover before the start of basketball season.

However, the Braves are past that phase. What also helps is Mandan returned their top three players from last year, so they are not starting from scratch.

“We have a very fortunate situation where we have so many returns,” head coach Abby Thomas said, “but we have a lot of young girls coming up too. So we need to make sure that we are getting them prepared for the future. It’s constantly a building process.”

Mandan goes for their fourth straight win tomorrow at Turtle Mountain.
