Girls HS Basketball: St. Mary’s battled tough road stretch to start the season

In girls high school basketball, arguably no team has had a harder schedule to start the season than St. Mary’s.

The Saints early season opponents included road games to Jamestown, Mandan and Bismarck High.

They also had a neutral site game with Legacy. The good news is despite the rough stretch. St. Mary’s still has a shot to climb up the standings and get a favorable seed for the all-important West Region Tournament.

“We’ll be middle to the top of the pack,” senior guard Taylor Gerving said. “There’s Century and Mandan that are always very talented. I feel like they will be up there. The rest of the teams can be fair game and I feel like we have a fair shot of returning to the tournament.”

The Saints are 3-5 so far.

On Friday, St. Mary’s is at home against Century.
