In girls’ high school soccer, after last night’s win, Mandan is within striking distance of Minot for the top spot in the West.
The Braves are three points behind Minot for first place.
Last week, Mandan may have turned a corner, as the team unleashed five goals in a shutout win over St. Mary’s.
The offensive outbreak was the second multi-goal game for Mandan this year, and Coach Stephon Weston says the team’s recent play sparked some momentum in the middle of a competitive season.
“How we lined up against St. Mary’s specifically helped us create some opportunities and some space,” Weston said. “In the midfield especially, we were able to win the ball, turn it around, and then get their team to turn around and face their own goal.”
On Thursday, Mandan’s match with Bismarck is set for 8 p.m. at the Sanford Sports Complex.
