Girls HS Soccer: St. Mary’s must capitalize on scoring opportunities in State

The St. Mary’s girls soccer team shocked a lot of people by finishing second the West Region standings and earning an automatic berth in the state tournament.

The Saints lost 1-0 to Minot in the WDA championship game, so they will be the No. 2 seed at State.

As the girls practice for the big tournament this week, they know they are a defensive-minded team. So they have to take advantage when scoring opportunities present themselves.

“Its really important,” senior midfielder Summer Sturm said, “since we are a team that scores on very few opportunities. We’re definitely more of a defensive team, so any chance we get we need to capitalize on.”

In the first round of the state tournament, St. Mary’s takes on Fargo Davies in the last match of the day at the Community Bowl.
