In girls high school tennis, St. Mary’s is off to a 1-0 start after defeating Century 6-1 last week.
This is head coach Catherine Gibbens second year leading the program. Gibbens said she better understands the nuances of how North Dakota high school tennis works. Also, she said she joining the Bismarck-Mandan Tennis Association which help let the community know that she was coaching and encourage more girls to come out for the sport, but here’s what she said was one of her biggest adjustments.
“The weather,” Gibbens said. “Having to cancel matches because of the weather. Having to try and figure out how you are going to fit 30 girls inside of the school gym or one court indoors that’s already happened.”
On Thursday, St. Mary’s travels to Mandan for a match at 4:15 p.m.
