Girls HSBB: Top seed Century’s defense carrying them into State

National Sports

On the girls’ side, Century will be the top seed in the state tournament for the second straight year.

Century comes in after a dominating 64-35 win over Mandan in the WDA title game. The championship win was Century’s 24th on the year.

The undefeated Patriots have been great on defense. During the West Region tournament, Century did not allow an opponent over 40 points and no team has scored over 60 all season.

“It’s just kind of awesome that our hard work pays off,” junior center Lauren Ware said. “Especially, on the defensive end. We focus a lot on defense, especially in practice. It’s nice to see it pay off in games.”

Century plays Red River at 5 p.m. on Thursday followed by Legacy and Shanley.

To start the day, Williston faces Devils Lake then Mandan goes against West Fargo Sheyenne.
