Girls Soccer: Bismarck beats Century for first WDA title since 2000

Bismarck girls soccer captured its first WDA title since 2000 with a 2-1 win over Century on Tuesday night.

The Demons created plenty of dangerous opportunities in the first half but didn’t open the scoring until the final 10 minutes of the half, when Rayni Voracheck lofted a perfect downfield pass to Elle Hill who was making a run on goal. Hill received the pass, baited the Century keeper to come out from the goal line, and then neatly sidestepped the goalkeeper’s slide and slotted the ball home for the 1-0 lead.

Century tied the game courtesy of a Kate Weigum goal in the 50th minute.

Bismarck responded with Hill’s second goal of the match with five seconds remaining on the clock to seal the win and the title.

Elsewhere in WDA play, Mandan lost a 4-2 match to Jamestown on the road. Mandan finishes the regular season currenlty tied with Minot for second place in the West. Minot has two matches remaining, and the team who finishes in second will receive an automatic bid to the state tournament.
