On the Hazen girls’ track and field team, senior Grace Zimmerman is no stranger to finishing first in short distance sprints. But this season, she has a chance to do more than just win — she can rewrite the history books.
Zimmerman came into this season just three hundredths of a second shy of the school record in the 100m dash and three tenths of a second from the 200m dash record.
While that is not a lot of time, but those milliseconds can be tough to shed.
“Every hundredth of a second counts, so that could be whether it’s in my blocks and I have to work on getting faster out of the blocks, or finishing all the way through,” Zimmerman said. “It’s just every little thing pushing yourself through the whole race. That’s what will get you the records.”
Zimmerman has qualified for the Class B State track meet in the 100m and 200m dash, so she still has a chance to break the records. She does already has the school record in the 400m dash
