Hazen girls’ track and field eyes fourth consecutive title

National Sports

Hazen girls’ track and field has become a perennial powerhouse, having won the last three Class B state meets. This year, the Bison are looking to keep the streak going.

All of Hazen’s point scorers from the 2017 championship squad will be back, including NDSU commit Grace Zimmerman.

Coach John Ward says that even with the weather delaying outdoor practices and shortening the season, the team has plenty of confidence.

“We always go in with the expectation of doing well,” Ward said. “Last year, we kind of came around and surprised people. We’re hoping to do the same type of things [this year] and keep pushing ourselves and compete. And with the shorter season, we just want to see how far we can go.”

The Hazen girls’ program is no stranger to long state championship streaks. The program won six titles from 1992-98.
