Hockey: Thomas heads North to pursue hockey career

Century forward Isaiah Thomas has signed with the Estevan Bruins of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.

Thomas joins a Bruins roster that already has four North Dakotans.

The Bismarck Bobcats had their eye on Thomas this summer, but he says Estevan had him up for visits starting during his early years of high school, so they always felt like a good fit.

“The first time I got there,” Thomas said. “I met some of the guys there, and they’re all super nice–welcoming, and not treating me like a new kid that they didn’t really want there. They were showing me the ropes a little bit and were just very welcoming.”

Thomas says he’s looking forward to the higher physicality of play associated with the Canadian leagues.

The Bruins advanced to the championship last year before losing in game seven.
