HS Baseball: Dickinson thinks new scheduling helps develop younger talent

National Sports

Not every baseball coach is a fan of the new scheduling format, but the Dickinson baseball coaching staff believes the mix of conference and non-conference games will help them rebuild the program.

Every single game last year counted toward the WDA standings, which Dickinson won. But because each game was crucial to clinching a title, head coach Pete Dobitz said it forced him to manage his roster with a short-term focus.

“We were playing 12 seniors every game because we were out to win every game,” Dobitz said. “So what it does is your program suffers, because you don’t get a shot or chance to get younger kids in and get a look at them.”

So with non-conference games this season, Dobitz believes he will have a better opportunity to develop younger players.
