HS Baseball: Mandan hopes pitching continues to dominate at State

Sports

The Mandan high school baseball team left opponents shaking their heads as they qualified for the state tournament.

The Braves shutout Jamestown in the opening round before losing to Century. In the state qualifier matchup against Legacy, Mandan threw another shutout to make the return trip to state.

Coming into this season, head coach DeWitt Mack was worried about his pitching, but down the stretch his guys were not nervous and pitched with confidence.

I wasn’t,” senior pitcher Noah Gerhardt said. “I was just pitching for contact hoping to let my defense make the plays behind me. I didn’t really have any nerves at all.

In the first round of the state baseball tournament, Mandan will try to upset the top seed out of the East — Fargo Davies on Thursday at 7 p.m.
